We had 65 rowers representing Horowhenua, Hawkes Bay, Porirua, Petone, Clifton, Aramaho Whanganui, Wellington, and Star (eight clubs in total).
Being flexible was key and we were able to quickly make the decision to move from Manawatu to Whanganui (without too much hassle). A huge thanks to Gordon Dobson, Sarah Huston-Eastergaard and Andrew Carr-Smith for your efforts on and off the water.
Jo Mason, Andrew Bealing, and Kevin Horan had a great programme of events arranged that everyone enjoyed – a long distance race followed by mixed 500m/250m races on the Saturday.
On Sunday, we all met at the Foxton Loop for a social “Manawatu pleasure cruise” that took rowers along the loop and up the Manawatu river on a 13.5km journey. Even though some people were suffering the effects of Saturday night – the flat water and warm sun made this a highlight of the weekend.
We heard heaps of positive feedback about the social aspect and opportunity to meet fellow masters.
Thanks Horowhenua RC, Wellington Rowing Association and the participating clubs for all pitching in.
Can’t wait for next year!
Caroline Robertson, Petone RC.
